Though we love our summers here in the Ludington and West Michigan area, autumn comes in a close second. What's not to love about the thousands of trees that proudly display their vivid yellows, oranges, and reds? The crispness in the air feels so refreshing, and beckons you outside to enjoy a walk through the woods or a leisurely stroll along the lakeshore.

Fall also brings its own unique entertainment—from Harvest Festivals and hayrides to corn mazes and barn dances. This is the season to visit a pumpkin patch, enjoy the goodness of fresh apple cider, or book a charter for some terrific salmon fishing. Residents head to the local football fields for that exciting Friday night showdown. Downtown Ludington businesses and those along Ludington Avenue display their "Scarecrows on Parade," and you'll find them both funny and creative. Grab a warm cup of coffee or a bowl of soup at one of the downtown restaurants, where the friendly staff always makes you feel welcome.

Fall Color Tour

In this part of Michigan, the colors are most vivid from mid-late October.

The Hamlin Lake area is especially beautiful—park your car along Lakeshore Drive and look across at the brilliant colors of Ludington State Park.

Drive east on US-10 to Custer, then take Custer and Sugar Grove Roads to Round Lake, and up to Fountain and Freesoil. These country roads bypass three small lakes, and it's a truly beautiful drive in the autumn.

Old PM Highway will lead you to Iris Road, and South Lakeshore Drive. Here you'll find Historic White Pine Village, Buttersville Peninsula and the cold, brisk winds off Lake Michigan.

Head north, and take the glorious M-22 route, which starts in Manistee and winds its way up through Arcadia, Frankfort, Glen Arbor--all the way up to Leelanau County. It's a beautiful ride anytime of year, but the autumn colors will amaze you.

The Ludington area is truly blessed with four seasons, and fall is the most colorful of all! Come on—snuggle into your sweatshirt and enjoy what Mother Nature brings us, year after year.
